The Prince of Wales College Alumni Association

The PWC Alumni Association (originally called Society) was formed by a group of former students (including Lucy Maud Montgomery) after the main college building on Weymouth Street was destroyed by fire in February 1932, and replaced with the current building at the same location less than a year later in January 1933.

Over the years, the Association has continued to exist, with some years being more active than others.

Alumni reunions have been held for many years. The first big reunion happened in 1977, a three-day event. Over 1,000 people attended a four-day event in 1990. Other reunions were held in 2003 and 2010. For many years, a luncheon for alumni and friends provided by UPEI and followed by a program (usually a speaker) was held annually at UPEI as part of the UPEI Homecoming Weekend.

Since 2017, alumni have attended luncheons at UPEI and had their program at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall at Holland College, the former gymnasium/auditorium for PWC alumni. No reunions were held during the pandemic.

Caption reads: Prince of Wales College Alumni Dianne Anderson, left, and Barb MacNutt are ready to celebrate two landmark anniversaries during the Prince of Wales College Reunion in Charlottetown on Friday, July 26, with the help of the Blue Crystals. From left are Leonard McEwen, lead guitar/vocals, and Ian Hunter, bass and vocals. Missing from the photo are Blue Crystal members Ronnie MacLean, drums, Dave Altass, vocals, and Bob Perry, rhythm guitar.

Currently, reunions are held in the afternoon of the last Saturday of July, with assistance from both UPEI and Holland College. Our largest recent reunion was in 2019, when over 180 alumni and friends enjoyed the popular band The Blue Crystals, who were giving their last performance. Each year the number of alumni attending is smaller, due to aging and health issues.

The history of Prince of Wales College A Century of Excellence, written by Marian Bruce and published in 2005, was an initiative of the PWC Alumni Society.

In 2012, the digitization of PWC records and documents was completed at UPEI, with funding provided by the PWC Alumni Association, including two PWC funds invested at UPEI.
